Description

STEM toy aisles love saying “screen time but educational” without admitting you supply the tablet. I kept PlayShifu Plugo Count on Omega Choices because the saved listing is concrete: magnetic number tiles, a foldable gamepad, five free app games, 250+ levels, ages 4–10, and no Bluetooth electronics in the box. Three thousand eight hundred fifty-three ratings at 4.3 is a real pile for a math kit, and the Kristy Edwards Osmo comparison in the United States notes is the useful friction label—not a five-star coronation. If you wanted backyard splash play instead of arithmetic tiles, our TOYOKID two-pack electric water gun review is a different Toys column entirely.

PlayShifu Plugo Count Review: AR Math Tiles, Tablet Tax, and the 3,853-Rating Honesty Test

Tablet math toys arrive every holiday wearing the same STEM costume. I kept this PlayShifu Plugo Count listing on Omega Choices because the object on the saved page is specific: a foldable gamepad, Count Spike, arithmetic operators, digit sets, magnetically connected hardware, and an app with five free games and 250+ levels—not a plastic abacus with a logo slapped on.

That is the same filter as How We Pick Today's Best Deals: Two Weeks I Actually Stress-Tested Omega Choices Listings (And What We Refuse to Feature). Toys picks need review depth when the child is the user and the parent is the buyer. Fifty-nine seventy-four against $59.99 is a tiny cut; treat it as a price check, not a celebration. Three thousand eight hundred fifty-three ratings at 4.3 with a sixty-eight-percent five-star bar and a seven-percent one-star slice is a mature pile worth reading.

Product gallery hero from the Amazon listing we imported for this deal roundup.

Specs worth writing down before gift day: brand Shifu / PlayShifu, model Count, part Shifu020, UPC 619201270527, ages 4–10 on the app row, manufacturer recommended age 4–10 years, educational objectives counting, creative thinking, STEM, spatial reasoning. In the box: foldable gamepad plus tiles—no batteries, no Bluetooth, magnetically connected pieces. App compatibility lists iOS iPad and iPhone 6 or newer, select Samsung devices, and certain Amazon Fire tablets, with explicit exclusions like iPad Pro 12.9 on the bullet row. Rank sits in Toys & Games and Educational Science Kits.

United States owner language clusters the way AR learning kits usually do. Carol and Kaitlyn’s short five-star notes frame it as a perfect STEM gift. Don’s early-childhood-educator four-star write-up is the adult voice: great game, one small problem—read that before you assume flawless classroom polish. Kb’s forward-thinking STEM note and the “Cool use of AR technology” five-star are the positive technology lane. Kristy Edwards’s three-star Osmo comparison is the cross-shop sentence I would repeat to a friend. The one-star “Very disappointing” and the late one-star Amazon Customer note are the caution labels for device compatibility and expectation mismatch.

The wider 2026 Plugo Count conversation repeats three boring rules independent of this ASIN. You supply a compatible tablet or phone. The kit is math-only—not letters, piano, or link blocks unless you buy other Plugo kits. Screen time is part of the bargain even when the physical tiles feel refreshingly low-tech. Positive third-party write-ups praise tactile digits for early numeracy, 250+ progressive levels, no subscription for the five core games, and hardware that needs no charging. The catches are device strictness, iPad Pro exclusions, and comparisons to Osmo where build quality and app polish differ by household.

Keep this SKU in a different cart column from splash toys, living-room projectors, and screen-free glow pads. Our LXT 16-inch LED doodle glow tablet review is the acrylic doodle board that does not need your tablet—not place-value practice. Our TOYOKID two-pack electric water gun review is backyard fight math, not place-value practice. Our XENPONAD mini projector review is another tablet job, but for movie nights—not arithmetic puzzles. Full month placement is on the August deal sheet.

Buy it when you already own a compatible device, you want story-based math for ages 4–10, and you like physical tiles controlling on-screen puzzles. Skip it if you needed a screen-free toy, a single-kit literacy program, or a device outside the compatibility bullet list. Bottom line: Toys plus Computers, honest tablet tax, 3,853-rating pile, and magnetic hardware that earns its keep when the app cooperates.

Product Summary

Owners who stick with Plugo Count usually describe a kit that feels lower-tech than the AR label suggests: magnetic number tiles, a foldable board, and an app that turns arithmetic into story puzzles instead of worksheet drudgery. Positive United States notes on the saved page often frame it as a gift that landed—perfect STEM language from Carol and Kaitlyn, forward-thinking praise from Kb, and AR enthusiasm from buyers who liked seeing digits control the screen. The educator voice matters too. Don’s four-star early-childhood note is the balanced sentence: great game with one small problem, which is more useful than a wall of five-star gift reactions. Critical threads are equally on-brand for tablet toys. Kristy Edwards’s Osmo comparison tells you cross-shopping happens at this price, and the one-star disappointing notes are the reminder to read device compatibility before wrap day. Build talk centers on plastic tiles and a gamepad with no batteries or Bluetooth—refreshingly simple hardware powering a screen experience that still needs a charged tablet. Content depth is the other owner theme: five free games, 250+ levels, age-adjustable difficulty, and math skills from counting through operators show up in the feature rows and in longer five-star essays about both children in one household learning at different speeds. The histogram on the page I saved is sixty-eight percent five-star with single-digit bars on the lower tiers and a fourteen-percent four-star slice, which is a healthy spread for a toy that has been on the market long enough to accumulate honest friction. If you read that as sentences instead of a feature dump, Plugo Count behaves like a birthday-grade math kit for families who already own a compatible iPad or Fire tablet and want tactile numbers—not a magic screen that replaces teaching.

Perfect STEM game

Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2025

I got this for my 5- and 8-year-old, and it was a hit! They both love STEM toys, and so do I, since they make learning fun while keeping those curious little brains engaged. This one did not disappoint—it turned math practice into an interactive and exciting game rather than just another lesson. One of the best features is the ability to select different difficulty levels, so both of my kids could find something suited to them. My younger one could start with the basics, while my older child got more of a challenge, making it a toy they can grow with. The combination of hands-on play and digital interaction kept them interested for much longer than I expected. If you're looking for a fun, educational toy that actually holds kids' attention while reinforcing math skills, this is a great choice. It’s a fantastic way to make learning feel like play!

My daughter’s favorite! She’s always playing games on her iPad and this was absolutely perfect for her. She enjoyed all of the games and for the price of it, you’d be surprised. I’d buy 100 of these games.

From a early childhood educator- great game with 1 small problem

Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2025

My review as a mom who also has an early childhood education teaching degree. Overall a great game with 1 small problem that could be improved. Pro: Works for variety of ages. I have a 7, 5, and 3 year old who all have content good for their ages. The game is engaging and fully educational in content. The number manipulative make it more hands-on than just clicking the number on a screen line in traditional apps. My one issue: For my youngest child who is learning number basics and how to identify numbers on sight (the basic level), the FONTS on some of the number manipulatives are not all ideal. Specifically the “4” and “9”. The numbers on the manipulatives are in a font that (while common and one that children need to learn to recognize as they grow) is not the same font that teachers traditionally use when first teaching children to read and write their numbers/giving number exposure. I included a picture showing what I mean and which fonts I think would have been better for our super early learners.

Forward thinking STEM game for both of my children

Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2019

First off, I have to tell you how impressed I was with shipping. Shifu plugo count, arrived from California all the way to the Middle East in less than a week! The set up was incredibly easy which required downloading the Plugo app with our compatible device and follow the on screen instructions. Note, the device we are using is the Amazon Fire 7, 9th generation but it is also compatible with our iPhones. Plugo game pad and count came with a quick start guide for parents and educators which was easy to understand and follow along with. This is such a great interactive game for both of my children (ages 3 and 6) I was able to create profiles for both of them and adjust each profile to their learning range. I've been searching for apps that keep my kids entertained while teaching them and haven't been able to find that until now with the Shifu. There are a bunch of different "games" within the app to go along with the pluggo count and the fact that it grows with them is priceless. Both kids were laughing while being challenged playing with spike and the fun characters within in the pluggo count app. I am looking forward to adding new additions to our collection like the Orboot and link. I highly recommend this and it would make the perfect gift.

Cool use of AR technology

Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2020

I ordered this product to help my son, who is on the autism spectrum, work on his math. He loves technology and being able to use manipulatives makes abstract concepts, like math, more concrete for him. He enjoys using it and it is helping him with his number sense. My daughter is more advanced in math (about 3rd grade level so on to multiplication and division) and she enjoyed playing with it too. It isn't so fun that either wants to play with it without encouragement - it is doing math after all and they would rather use the iPad for watching YouTube - but they enjoy it quite a bit more than worksheets. The one thing that I would change is the device holder on the play mat. Since this is an item for children using a tablet or phone - which are expensive - I would think it would work better with devices using cases. I have kid proof cases on our devices, so a little thicker, and the device holder on the play mat does not like holding the devices up with those cases on. Not a huge deal as I just prop up the devices aligned with the mat but it does seem like an oversight.

You're Better Off with Osmo

Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2023

As a 40+ year adult, I didn't know the answer to a few of these questions. They made literally no sense. My child didn't know and I couldn't answer. We answered 3 or 4 times and couldn't get what they wanted us to do. It was frustrating. It was a waste of money. My kids didn't find it fun and will never play it again. The Osmo games are top-notch. We have had the Osmo games for 2 years and my kids continue playing them over and over. I thought this might be something they liked since they like Osmo. But that's a no. It's our first and last plugo purchase.

Very disappointing

Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2021
Style: Style: Count | Verified Purchase
Bought this for my almost-five-year old. We have a fire tablet, which it worked ok with. Although the spike thing disconnected quite often, which was very frustrating. My main issue is that the games are neither nor engaging. They also seem to be just quizzing the player as opposed to actually teaching them anything. There's one game in which a llama says he's going to do a card trick- this caught my daughter's interest; but then he just keeps quizzing the player on how many cards he has and never actually does a trick. All the games are just random storylines that are either boring or make zero sense. Then they interrupt the gameplay with a voiceover that demands the player identify something ("how many windows are there?" Or "which number is missing from the sequence?"). The prompts only superficially fit into the game. ALSO, there is often text displayed that's not read out loud- no good for a preschooler who's just starting to learn how to read. Great idea, terrible execution. Feels more like a student's final project to earn their degree than a finished product.
